After 12 months of building, landscaping and styling, the doors are finally open to Nick’s Journey auction house in Albury’s popular suburb of Thurgoona.
Proceeds from the auction on Saturday 17 November will support the long-term rehabilitation of Nick Dempsey, who early last year sustained a life-changing spinal injury.
Following Nick’s accident, the local community banded together to create this beautiful four-bedroom, open plan home on a 1200m2 block of land in Thurgoona. It’s been a collaboration between dozens of local businesses, but especially involving two of Southern Plumbing’s long-time customers Peter Dempsey Plumbing and Davis Sanders Homes.
At a special “thank-you event” at the house on Thursday night, Nick paid tribute to all those who’d given their time and materials to build the home. He said he was overwhelmed by the result and the effort that everyone had put in to achieve the high level of craftsmanship.

Southern Plumbing’s Managing Director, Warwick Beutler, told the gathering that everyone involved in the project had done so for one reason only – to help Nick Dempsey.
“The true Australian spirit is helping out a mate when he’s in trouble. Not feeling obliged to do it, but doing it because it’s the right thing to do. That’s what happened here. And everyone who has been involved in this project, even in the smallest of ways, should be very proud of that they have done,” said Warwick.
Now it’s the public’s turn to view the house, 34 Tweed Street Thurgoona, and decide whether they will bid for it at the auction on 17 November. It’s open on Saturday 20 October from 11am to 2pm, with a BBQ starting at midday.
Southern Plumbing is the proud supplier of bathroom, kitchen, laundry and plumbing products.
