Glenn Jones celebrates 20 years at Southerns
It was 20 years ago that a young, callow, skinny dude walked into 32 Pearson Street in Wagga Wagga to join a motley crew who were setting up Southern Plumbing’s store in town. His name was Glenn Jones, and he’d been recruited a couple of weeks earlier to work in the new showroom. It was stinking hot, as Wagga always is in January, that the crew would not work beyond 2pm because temperatures in the tin shed were reaching the high 40’s to low 50’s.
Having worked in a joinery factory, Jonesy, was tasked with erecting displays. He was a bit rough but what he lacked in perfection, he made up for in effort and dedication, and it was clear to everyone that Jonesy was a ‘doer’. He wouldn’t shirk work, and he’d do his best for his family and the company.
And 20 years on, this work ethic and the dedication have propelled him to the ranks of senior management, in charge of the company’s sales.

From the earliest days, Jonesy helped build the solid customer base in Wagga, especially with builders. Those customers have remained loyal, thanks to the excellent customer service they received.
Mick Bodel, the owner of Bodel’s Plumbing Service, has worked with Glenn for 15 years, experiencing first hand his exceptional customer service. “Glenn’s thorough and always goes the extra mile. He knuckles down to get the job done, and no request is ever out of the ordinary for him,” shares Mick.
Wayne Carter, the owner of Wayne Carter Homes, is a long-time customer of Southern Plumbing and Glenn’s first employer where he worked in a joinery factory for seven years. “Glenn was a great employee, but the thing I remember most was his terrible handwriting,” recalls Wayne. “However, what he lacked in dexterity, he certainly made up for in efficiency.”
Wayne now deals with Glenn through his business Wayne Carter Homes. “If I ever have any major issues, Glenn’s always able to solve them in an efficient, no fuss and timely manner. He’s my 'go to' person,” says Wayne.

Glenn was promoted to store manager, then to the regional manager and now the sales manager of the entire company. “He’s deserved that success because he’s worked tenaciously, methodically and modestly. Despite the challenges, he faces every day, and they are formidable, he remains enthusiastic and optimistic,” says Warwick Beutler, Managing Director of Southern Plumbing Supplies.
Over the past 20 years, Glenn’s been part of substantial growth and changes to the Southern Plumbing Supplies brands. “Being part of an independent company, which challenges its national competitors makes me most proud. Our ability to not only compete but to consistently push our larger competitors is sensational,” says Glenn.
Sharing his enthusiasm for the future of the company Glenn shows no signs of slowing down. “We have another big year planned, with new product ranges and an online ordering system on the radar for 2019.” We have no doubt you’ll see Glenn pop up on our Facebook and Instagram pages, given he’s become a familiar face in many of our sales promotions. He’s not shy of the camera – we’ll give him that!
“It’s been a privilege to grow, adapt and move forward with the company over the last 20 years. All the staff and customers I’ve worked with over this time have made it all worthwhile, and I look forward too many more years to come,” says Glenn.
We think Glenn’s a model for every employee in the company. Thanks, Jonesy, for 20 fantastic years of dependable service. Pity your hand-writing hasn’t improved!
