What’s inside an award-winning home?
As the dust settles on the 2018 Master Builders Building Excellence Awards for the ACT and Northern Victoria, we've looked to a handful of our award-winning customers and asked the big question... What’s inside an award-winning home?
1. High quality products
Not only will quality products endure the test of time, they’ll add that ‘wow’ factor as a constant reminder that you created a home your family loves.
These award-winning builders look to iconic brands such as Smeg, ASKO, apaiser, hansgrohe, Villeroy & Boch and Franke.
We’ve seen an increase in luxury kitchens in the ACT region, in particular SieMatic – German manufactured kitchen cabinetry. Exclusive to Southern Innovations Fyshwick, SieMatic is a benchmark for outstanding kitchen design. Discover the five must-have features of the modern kitchen.
It’s great to see newer brands appear in this year’s winning projects, including Harmony bathroomware, as seen in Better Building’s Wisteria at Googong ACT, awarded for Bathroom Project – Less than $30,000.

2. Tapware technology
We’re delighted that bathroomware advancements are making their way into the Canberra region’s homes, with touch technology and thermostatic mixers featured in a number of winning projects. The way we operate showers is refining, with products such as AXOR One where the water volume and consumption can be regulated with the touch of a button.
In the kitchen, the KWC Eve Kitchen Mixer with Pull Out Spray and Light is a luxurious statement piece for those who like to entertain.

3. Freestanding baths
Nothing says luxury quite like a freestanding bath from brands including apaiser, Bette or Rogerseller which featured on the builders’ selection lists for the 2018 Master Builders Building Excellence Awards. Enjoy the perfect winter soak with heat maximising materials including ceramilux, stone and acrylic, paired perfectly with a bath filler.
4. Timeless elegance
This year’s awards prove that black tapware remains a popular selection, but we’re not surprised that chrome remains the hero of all tapware. Chrome is, after all, an effortless choice for interiors that will stand the test of time.
In most homes styling has been kept to a minimum with a “less is more” attitude which packs a punch and provides flexibility for updating accessories and statement furniture pieces for a fresh interior over the years.

5. Mixed materials and texture
This year’s awards have illustrated a creative use of materials for both the exterior and interior. Neutral tones and natural materials is the show stopper in many of the 2018 Master Builders Building Excellence Awards. Stone and timber have proven popular materials for flooring and ceilings, and exterior cladding. While inside, timber sets brilliantly against marble and grey tiles.
